President Rodrigo Roa Duterte embarks on his fifth visit to the People’s Republic of China, particularly in Beijing and Guangzhou, from 28 August to 1 September 2019.
In Beijing, President Duterte is set to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In a pre-departure briefing hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on 23 August 2019, the two leaders’ meeting is aimed at discussing the accomplishments and shared goals of the Philippines and China under their comprehensive strategic cooperation.
The DFA said that the Chief Executive is looking forward to exchanging views with President Xi on accelerating the pace of their respective countries’ functional cooperation in terms of concrete projects and other issues of mutual interest.
After their meeting, both leaders are expected to witness the signing of a number of cooperative bilateral documents and memorandum of understanding that seek to further increase the depth of the partnership between the Philippines and China.
After his engagements in China’s capital, President Duterte shall proceed to the City of Guangzhou in Guangdong Province to show his support to the Philippine basketball team, aka the ‘Gilas Pilipinas’, at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 2019 World Cup.
