President Benigno S. Aquino III led the inauguration of the 138-meter long Basilan Circumferential Road, whose construction started about 16 years ago.
In his speech, a total budget of PhP 1.83 billion was allotted to finish the construction. The said project included the improvement and reconstruction of the 51-kilometer part of the road, as well as the construction of four bridges, which will reduce travel time of the residents from three hours and 45 minutes, to two hours. According to the President, the Basilan Circumferential Road will contribute to the fast improvement of the livelihood and transportation in the province.
Likewise, President Aquino gave an update on the ongoing infrastructure projects in Basilan. As of the latest, PhP 14.85 billion was given to the province to improve its major thoroughfares, bridges, flood control projects and other structures. This amount is bigger compared to the PhP 1.85 billion pesos budget of Basilan from 2005 until 2010.
