The Wat Si Muang is a Buddhist temple built on the ruins of a Khmer Hindu shrine in 1563. In front of the temple stands a statue of King Sisavang Vong who ruled the Kingdom from April 28, 1904 until his death on October 20, 1959. He was known as a ‘playboy’ king who had up to 50 children by 15 wives. Fourteen of the children died in the Mekong River after a boating accident.
