President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed his condolences to the family of Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal in a wake visit at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral in Cebu City.

The prelate became Coadjutor Archbishop of Cebu and parish priest of Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral in 1981, and was installed as Archbishop of Cebu in 1982. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 1985.

He also became president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) from 1986 to 1987.
