President Rodrigo Roa Duterte awarded the Wounded Personnel Medal to the wounded-in-action (WIA) soldiers as he visited the Camp Siongco Station Hospital in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

The wounded soldiers encountered more or less fifty (50) armed lawless elements during a law enforcement support operation while serving a search warrant against Mayor Raul Sangki at Barangay Saniag, Ampatuan, Maguindanao on January 26, 2017.

During the visit, President Duterte distributed cash assistance and awarded the medals to twelve (12) wounded soldiers. Among those who received the aid and awards are SSg. Manuel Asania, SSg. Arvin Esperanza, Sgt. Elmer Pelle, Sgt. Leonardo Remulta, Pvt. Horold John Dionisio, Pvt. Erwin Mistoso, Pvt. Rizalde Coronado, Pvt. Eldie Mallorca, Pvt. Vincent John Gregorio, Cpl. Raffy Matingkal, Pfc. Jerusel Castaneda, and Cpl. Alden Kahoy.

The awarded soldiers are members of the operating troops of 601BDE, 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division of the Philippine Army.
