President Rodrigo Roa Duterte paid his final respects to the late Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Nestor Espenilla, Jr. in a wake visit at The Heritage Park in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
BSP Governor Espenilla died on February 23, 2019 (Saturday) at the age of 60 after battling tongue cancer. Before his passing, he was appointed by President Duterte as the BSP governor in 2017. He started his career in the Central Bank as a debt analyst in 1982.
In a statement issued by Malacañang, Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo commended Governor Espenilla’s 40 years in government service.
“As we express our condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of Governor Espenilla, we express our gratitude to the man once in charge of disciplining banks for his complete devotion to his work and great service to the nation,” he said.
