President Rodrigo Roa Duterte handed over PhP 100 million to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) for the improvement of its hospital services during his visit to the hospital.
According to the President, PhP 50 million will be allotted for the medication of the VMMC patients, and the other PhP 50 million to subsidize the medicines needed for the active and retired soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
He also instructed the VMMC management to purchase the best available medical equipment for the needs of its patients. He also mentioned that the lowest-bid rule in procurement is a source of corruption in the government so he wants to do away with it.
“Buy the best, huwag yung lowest bid… I want quality. Quality ako,” he said.
The President also gave grocery packs to the 19 hemodialysis patients during his visit and toured the VMMC to check the availability of medical equipment used by the hospital.
He was accompanied by Department of Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III, and Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go.
