Following his visit to typhoon-stricken areas in Leyte, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte checked the situation of the victims and assessed the damages caused by the onslaught of Tropical Depression ‘Agaton’ (international name: Megi) in Pontevedra, Capiz.

During the Lenten Season, President Duterte visited and talked to the evacuees displaced by the typhoon and currently staying at the Pontevedra Elementary School Evacuation Center. Together with national and local government officials, the President distributed relief goods and assistance to several evacuees.

In his speech, the President instructed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to fast-track the distribution of available assistance to all those affected by the calamity in the Region. He also called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and National Housing Authority (NHA) to spearhead the repairs of houses and roads that were devastated by Tropical Depression ‘Agaton’.

“Ang akin is nagpunta ako dito talagang may tulong. There is always an assistance because there is what you would call the contingency fund. Iyong calamity fund hindi ko maibigay harap-harapan sa tao,” President Duterte said.

“But I am happy that pinagbigyan ako ng panahon, maganda to fly here to talk to you at least maski na papaano may maiwan akong kaunti para sa inyo,” he added.

Prior to his visit to the evacuation center, President Duterte conducted an aerial inspection to assess the damages in areas affected by the typhoon and led the groundbreaking of the Capiz Multi-Purpose Evacuation and Convention Center.
