President Benigno S. Aquino III inspected the operations center of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Pasay City after leading a series of relief operations in the provinces of Laguna and Rizal.
The President briefly interacted with the DSWD volunteers during his tour of three of the NROC’s warehouses. He was accompanied by Mayor Tony Calixto, Rep. Emi Calixto-Rubiano, World Food Programme country director Stephen Anderson and some members of his Cabinet.
In his short message, President Aquino reiterated the flood mitigation plan of the government and hailed the work and sacrifices of all the volunteers.
“Maski hindi ninyo nakikita ‘yung pinag-aabutan, ginagarantiya ko ho sa inyo, bawat isang pinagkalooban nitong inimpake nyo talagang damang-dama po na hindi sila nag-iisa, merong nagmamalasakit sa kanila at tuwang-tuwa po sa ginagawa ninyo,” he said.
More than 230 student volunteers joined members of the Philippine National Police, Phil. Air Force, Civil Defense Action Group and other local and civic organizations in the repacking of relief goods that will be distributed to those affected by the floods caused by the southwest monsoon. These included volunteers from the Makati YMCA Hi-Y Club, University of Perpetual Help of Las Piñas and the Federation of Supreme Student Government of Makati, an umbrella organization of all Makati public high schools.
The DSWD repacking warehouse has already distributed 101,338 food packs and 129,300 more are ready to be dispatched to evacuation centers in the National Capital Region, Region III and Region IV-A. One food pack is worth P250 and contains 3 kilos of rice, canned goods and coffee or noodles.
