Newton, Massachusetts

After 31 years, President Benigno S. Aquino III visited his family’s former residence at 175 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton, Massachusetts on the final day of his Visit to Boston, United States.
The Aquino family spent almost three years in this residence while the President’s father, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr., was in exile during martial law in the Philippines.
In his speech delivered yesterday to the Filipino community in Boston College, President Aquino fondly recalled the memories of their family’s stay, saying that this is where he learned the value of introspection.
“It was in Boston, thanks to all our friends, that my family was given a haven from the persecution of the dictatorship; it was here where we were given a sense of normalcy in what can only be described as abnormal times back home,” the President said.
