 President Benigno S. Aquino III hosted a dinner for Queen Sofia of Spain in Malacanang on the second day of her visit in the country.

In his statement, President Aquino said that the Philippines and Spain have stood together in pursuing the ultimate goals for both nations and in fulfilling the vast potential for their people. The President said that he also sees a mutual regard for more cultural exchanges between the two nations.  The President also said that Spain has been the country’s reliable partner in development cooperation, helping Filipinos to be empowered, productive and educated.

The President said he was grateful for the 1.4 million euros humanitarian aid from Spain, which has helped many Filipinos affected by disasters rebuild their lives and communities.

In her reply, Queen Sofia  said that Spain does not only see the Philippines as a sister country but also as a key partner. Philippines will always be a priority country for Spanish cooperation for development and will stand by the Filipino people overcome frequent disasters and calamities. She also praised the determination that President Aquino is showing to get the millions of Filipino out of poverty and his commitment to transparency, good governance and accountability.
