Government House, Bangkok, Thailand
March 21, 2017
President Rodrigo Duterte and Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha viewed a demonstration of Thai handicrafts at the lobby of the Santi Maitri Hall in the Government House right before their official dinner.
On display are products being made by local communities under the “One Tambon (District), One Product (OTOP)” project of the Thai government. Both leaders viewed the skills and craftsmanship of Thais in metal embossing, pottery and puppet handicrafts among others.
Similar to the Philippines Department of Trade and Industry “One Town, One Product” program, Thai’s OTOP aims to promote unique products and provide opportunities for communities to market these products globally.
The Faculty of Home Economics Technology of the Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) also showcased its knowledge in fruit carving, garland making, preparing traditional desserts such as crispy tarts, and making delectable imitation fruits.
