New Executive Building, Malacañang
February 27, 2017

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar received over 400 radios from Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines H. E. Zhao Jianhua in a turnover ceremony at the New Executive Building in Malacañang.

“This is only a very small step… There are many more things we can do together,” said Ambassador Jianhua in a message during the event.

The gift was part of China’s commitment to a memorandum of understanding signed on October 2017 during President Duterte’s visit to China that aims to help strengthen the state-run media services such as the People’s Television Network, Inc., Radyo ng Bayan and the government newswire service, Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Ambassador Jianhua also discussed other collaborative projects between China’s State Council Information Office and PCOO such as yearly visits to China for a training program tailored specifically for the needs and wants of the delegates from PCOO.

Other projects include the provision of new radio transmitters to replace old transmitters of Philippine state-run radio stations and to allow the building of more radio stations to strengthen government radio coverage nationwide.

Secretary Andanar and Ambassador Jianhua also answered questions from the Malacañang Press Corps (MPC) at the end of the turnover ceremony.
