Built in 1415 during the Ming Dynasty, the Tiananmen Square was once the main gate to the Forbidden City and is considered one of the largest public squares in the world. Its name was derived from the massive stone Tiananmen that means “Gate of Heavenly Peace”.
The Square covers an area of 100 acres where each flagstone is numbered for ease during the assembly of parades.
