In honoring exemplar Filipinos who have contributed greatly towards a more secure and progressive nation, President Benigno S. Aquino III took part in the annual The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) 2013 to recognize individuals that serve as examples of hope and excellence.

Spearheaded by Insular Life and JCI Senate Philippines, the TOFIL Award continues to give recognition to distinguished Filipinos for the past 26 years. This year, three Filipinos are the recipients of the award namely, Arsenio B. Ella for Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development, Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco A. Lagmay for Geology/Earth Sciences, and Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio L. Singson for Government/Public Service.

As a reminder to continue what they have started, President Aquino praised the three awardees for a job well done, saying their help and contributions for a better Philippines are proof that the government is able to give back with the trust that the Filipinos have given them.

“Nawa’y magpatuloy po ang inyong paglilingkod at ipamahagi ninyo ang inyong kaalaman upang dumami pa ang mga Pilipinong tutugon sa mga hamon ng kinabukasan,” the President said.

Moreover, he said that being an outstanding individual is not about being selfish, but more on giving back for the betterment of everyone.

“Magkakaiba man ang espesyalisasyon, iisa ang ating layunin: ang makapaglingkod sa mga Pilipino at makapagpapadala ng malawakan at pangmatagalang pagbabago sa Pilipinas,” President Aquino said.
