Secretary Robert Borje of the Climate Change Commission leads the Philippines’ participation at the Stockholm+50 in Stockholm, Sweden on 2 June 2022.
Sweden’s King His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf graced the opening ceremonies along with UN Secretary General António Guterres.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte designated Secretary Borje as Head of the Philippine Delegation and his personal representative.
The Philippine delegation includes Philippine Ambassador to Sweden, H.E. Maria Lumen Isleta, Philippine Mission to the UN in New York, Minister Leila Lora-Santos, Philippine Embassy in Nairobi Deputy Permanent Representative, Maria Rossana Josue, NEDA Undersecretary Mercedita Sombilla, and representatives from the Department of Finance (DOF) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Stockholm+50 is a High-Level meeting convened by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in Stockholm, Sweden on 2-3 June 2022. It is collaborative and multi-stakeholder in nature where participants can share experiences and initiatives in protecting the planet and contributing to sustainable and inclusive development, such as a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, among others.
Bearing the theme, ‘Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all — our responsibility, our opportunity,’ the event takes place in commemoration of 50 years of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, where environment was made a pressing global issue for the first time.
The event’s Opening Session also marks the commencement of Plenary Session I that highlights high-level statements, national statements and statements from the UN System and stakeholders.
