National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Mercedita Sombilla delivers the Philippines’ intervention during the Leadership Dialogue II at the Stockholm+50 in Stockholm, Sweden on 3 June 2022.
NEDA Undersecretary Sombilla highlighted the Philippines’ recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted to the 8.3% growth rate in Q1 2022. She urged recovery efforts not only to focus on the pandemic but also to the multidimensional risks from climate change and other natural disasters. She also urged stronger collective efforts of all countries to implement actions that reverberate in numerous meetings NOW.
Undersecretary Sombilla is part of the Philippine delegation representing the country to the Stockholm+50 led by Secretary Robert Borje of the Climate Change Commission. The Philippine Delegation comprises Her Excellency Maria Lumen Isleta, the Philippine Ambassador to Sweden, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Mercedita Sombilla, Minister Leila Lora-Santos, Philippine Mission to the UN in New York, Deputy Permanent Representative Maria Rossana Josue, Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, and representatives from the Department of Finance (DOF) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Stockholm+50 is a High-Level meeting convened by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in Stockholm, Sweden on 2-3 June 2022. It is collaborative and multi-stakeholder in nature where participants can share experiences and initiatives in protecting the planet and contributing to sustainable and inclusive development, such as a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, among others.
