President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended a state banquet given in his honor by Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam in Istana.

In his toast speech, President Duterte emphasized the purpose of his state visit, “I came to Singapore with a singular purpose – to renew and reaffirm the friendship and cooperation between our nations and peoples.”

He also said that both countries work closely on political issues, pursuing principled positions on the rule of law in the peaceful settlement of maritime disputes.

Meanwhile, President Tony Tan Keng Yam expressed his appreciation to the Philippine governemnt for its efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations that were established as early as 1969.

“Both our countries believe in trade and development to improve the lives of our peoples. Singapore companies are keen to invest in the Philippines – one of Asia’s fastest growing economies,” said President Tan.

His speech also wished President Duterte health and continued success, as well as prosperity for the people of the Philippines and to the enduring friendship between Singapore and Philippines.
