On the third day of the 35th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits in Thailand, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined his fellow ASEAN Leaders for a special lunch to discuss the sustainable development goals of the region.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha of the Kingdom of Thailand expressed the importance of sustainable development as a global agenda and a strategic priority of the ASEAN region. He also stressed that sustainable development is a key driver in building a strong and resilient change, as well as challenges.

Likewise, the Thai Prime Minister reported on the latest developments that the regional bloc has achieved such as the promotion of clean energy and poverty eradication. The ASEAN Chair emphasized the need to reduce inequality in the ASEAN region in order to narrow the gap both domestically and regionally, as well as to pursue the region’s vision that “no one will be left behind.”
