President Rodrigo Roa Duterte held a meeting with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) key officers and command group, regional directors, and selected jail wardens in a situation briefing at the Metro Manila District Jail (MMDJ) of the Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

Upon his arrival, the President was welcomed by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni Cayetano, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Officer-in-Charge Secretary Catalino Cuy, Philippine National Police – National Capital Region Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) Regional Director P/CSupt. Oscar Albayalde, and BJMP Acting Chief J/CSupt. Deogracias Tapayan.

During the meeting, J/CSupt. Tapayan delivered his welcome remarks and facilitated the situation briefing before the Commander-in-Chief. In his audio-visual presentation, he reported on the current number of BJMP personnel, the nationwide jail congestion rate, inmate population, among others. It was eventually followed by President Duterte’s guidance and message.

Right after the situation briefing, the President toured the facilities of MMDJ Annex 1 and visited the city prisoners detained at the building. He talked with the prisoners and vowed to provide them with television sets for their entertainment.

“Kapag may problema kayo, sabihin ninyo sa ‘kin. Tawagan ninyo ako… Gusto ko may linya kayo sa ‘kin,” President Duterte said to them.
