President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was invited to sign the official Guest Book before proceeding to a private meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.

Days before embarking on his Official Visit to Malaysia, the President laid down some important issues that he would like to discuss with Prime Minister Najib, and these include piracy and criminality most especially in areas surrounding the Sulu Sea.

In an interview with Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Jose Eduardo Malaya III, he emphasized that the visit of President Duterte is a good opportunity to talk with the Malaysian government and make concrete actions to address transnational crimes in the Southern Philippines, in cooperation with the Indonesian government.

“Alam niyo pong matagal na pong nababahala ang ating bansa lalong-lalo na yung mga kababayan natin na nakatira sa BASULTA area, Basilan-Sulu-Tawi-Tawi… itong pagbisita po ni Presidente Duterte ay isang event which could lead to a resolution of a number of issues including the kidnappings in the Sulu Seas,” he said.

Other possible discussions included in the President’s agenda concern the Philippines-Malaysia frontier controls, and joint military and police operations.
