President Benigno S. Aquino III signed the Joint Declaration between the Philippines and Japan at the Akasaka Palace on the third day of his State Visit.
Under the declaration, both countries agreed to “strengthen Strategic Partnership for Advancing the Shared Principles and Goals of Peace, Security, and Growth in the Region and Beyond.” This is anchored on the two countries’ shared universal values of freedom, democracy, rule of law and respect for basic human rights.
Both leaders also agreed that Japan and the Philippines have entered the stage of a strengthened relationship and reaffirmed the guiding principles for its future relations and goals within the Asia Pacific region and beyond.
The Joint Declaration also emphasized the contribution of both countries towards securing regional peace and stability, and tackled the path towards enduring peace in Mindanao.
