President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with his fellow Southeast Asian leaders, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) during the 35th ASEAN Summit Plenary at the IMPACT Forum in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The signed MOU outlines the cooperation aligned with the ASEAN Work Plan on Sports 2016–2020 and FIFA 2.0: The Vision for the Future stating the four (4) main areas of cooperation — Sports Integrity; Sports for Development; FIFA’s Football for Schools Programme; and Professional Capacity Building. The ASEAN Leaders were each presented with a jersey bearing the number 10 for Heads of State and the number 9 for Heads of Government except for Indonesia’s President who received the number 21. Indonesia is set to host the 2021 FIFA U-29 World Cup.
