“For those who have always been in the sporting arena and have managed to make a name for themselves and put the Philippines on the athletic map, I thank you all very much for the honor and the glory that you bring to our country,” conveyed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the send-off ceremony for the Philippines’ 840-strong delegation to the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
The Filipino athletes will be carrying the country’s colors in 38 disciplines at the region’s biggest biennial multisport event set from May 5 to 17, 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
“The hopes and the dreams and the aspirations of our countrymen for the Philippines ride with you… You have 107 million na kakampi na walang ginawa kundi magdasal na maging successful sa inyo, walang ginawa kundi isipin kung papaano kayo panalunin, kung papaano kayo tulungan, kung papaano kayo palakasin,” the President expressed.
He assured the country’s “sports ambassadors” of the Administration’s commitment, together with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), in extending all possible assistance it can to support them in all their endeavors.
“If there is anything more that this government can do, that this administration can do, that I personally can do, you please make sure you will tell me because we are all rooting for you and we all want to do everything that we can do to make you as successful as you possibly can in your chosen events,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his message.
