President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. presided over a sectoral meeting on the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) projects and cybersecurity concerns at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.
DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy discussed the National ICT Development Agenda 2023-2028 consisting of the National Broadband Plan, Digital Transformation of the National Government, State of the Philippines’ Cybersecurity, and Enhancing ICT Competency of Filipinos through Upskilling and Reskilling.
The National Broadband Plan serves as a roadmap for accelerating the development of fiber optic cables and wireless technologies across the country to increase internet speed. Under this Plan is the Free Public Internet Access Program that currently has 3,961 operational sites in 493 localities as of April 2023. The DICT is targeting to expand the program to an additional 10,000 sites in 1,364 localities.
Another DICT program is the Digital Transformation of the National Government that aims to streamline functions and ensure interoperability, maintain data standards and cybersecurity protection. Among the eGovernment priority projects that are citizen-centric platforms are eLGU, eTravel, eGovPay, eGovCloud, eReport & eGov PH super app.
DICT Secretary Uy also discussed the State of Philippine Cybersecurity, the proposed National Cybersecurity Response Organization and ongoing unified counter measures by the Department.
