President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. presided over a sectoral meeting with different government agencies at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) gave updates on the National Government Rightsizing Program (NGRP) wherein the President emphasized that the focus of the said program is to study and review the mandates and functions of offices under the Executive Branch.

To this end, the DBM reported its Sector Review Project that aims to determine suitable extent of government intervention on covered sectoral areas, identify areas of dysfunctions among agencies (including overlapping/unnecessary duplication of functions and inefficient/bureaucratic processes and systems), and provide recommendations on appropriate mandates and functions of agencies.

For the first phase of the project (2018-2020), 12 sectors were reviewed by the DBM, including Agriculture and Agrarian Reform; Culture, Arts and Sports; Education; Environment and Natural Resources; Interior and Local Government; Labor and Employment; Land Administration/Management; Planning, Programming, Finance and Budgeting; Trade and Industry; Transportation; Tourism; and Water Resources Management.

The Department presented the recommendations submitted by each sectors’ respective consultants based on their findings, and the appropriate actions that can be pursued under the NGRP.

For the succeeding phase of the review, the DBM is set to assess the following sectors: Energy and Public Works/Infrastructure; Justice, Security and National Defense; Foreign Relations; General Government/Administration; Health and Social Welfare; Information and Communications; and Science and Technology.
