President Benigno S. Aquino III met with senate leaders and senior lawmakers in a reception held in Capitol Hill.
The assignation is a gesture to further revitalize alliance with the United States and broaden the bilateral economic and defense cooperation including a support to the Philippine defense modernization.
Among those who joined the President were US Senate Committee chairman on Foreign Relations John F. Kerry (Democrat-Massachusetts), senior member of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Richard G. Lugar (Republican-Indiana), and Senator John McCain (Republican-Arizona).
The US Senate recently passed Resolution No. 481 calling for an increased defense and security cooperation with the Philippines. The resolution sponsored by Senator Richard Lugar is in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Mutual Defense Treaty between the Philippines and the United States.
