“It is important to highlight the importance of our shift from fossil fuels to renewables. And this is very important and very large part of that shift that we are trying to implement in our energy mix,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized as he vowed to continue with the Administration’s commitment in exploring more available technology to expand the country’s renewable energy sector for the benefit of Filipinos.
The President made these remarks during his attendance in the presentation of the 160-megawatt Pagudpud Wind Farm in Ilocos Norte, where he said that further collaboration with the private sector is one of the keys to build more facilities that will promote clean and green energy. These include solar, geothermal, hydrothermal and even nuclear power, which the President asserted will be safe for the people.
Moreover, he conveyed the importance of maximizing the full potential of renewable energy as a way of combating the effects of climate change, as well as to achieve a more robust economy in the country.
“Hindi mo maiiwasang mapupunta ang usapan sa climate change. And the effects of climate change and the changes that we have to do, or the way we work because we have to adjust to climate change. We have to adapt to the effects of climate change. So number one priority talaga iyon,” President Marcos Jr. remarked.
The Chief Executive added, “whatever it is that we have do to, it is going to be worth it. It is going to be of benefit to our people. It will be of benefit to our country. And that is why this is important work.”
Spearheaded by ACEN, the listed energy platform of the Ayala Group, the Pagudpud Wind Farm is currently considered the largest wind farm in the country comprising of 32 wind turbine generators capable of producing five (5) megawatts each. It is projected to power more than 123,000 homes and avoid approximately 340,000 metric tons of carbon emission annually.
