President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received the letter of credence from His Excellency Ričardas Šlepavičius, Non-Resident Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Lithuania to the Philippines, during the presentation of credentials in Malacañan Palace.
In presenting his credentials, Ambassador-Designate Šlepavičius noted that Lithuania and the Philippines are like-minded nations, having shown firm and sincere solidarity during the pandemic and in helping the people of Ukraine. He added that as members of the European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), respectively, both countries share a common understanding of global challenges, which makes them natural partners for development.
He conveyed his strong commitment to promote the bilateral partnership between their two countries.
For his part, President Marcos Jr. warmly welcomed the Lithuanian envoy to the country, citing his optimism for strengthened ties between the Philippines and Lithuania.
The Philippines and Lithuania established formal diplomatic relations on December 15, 1991.
