President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. warmly received the letter of credence from His Excellency Nicolas Brühl, Ambassador-Designate of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of the Philippines, in a ceremony at the Reception Hall in Malacañan Palace.
In his brief remarks, the Swiss envoy highlighted the deepening bilateral relations between Switzerland and the Philippines by citing the recently implemented Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries, noting that Switzerland is the largest investor from Europe in the Philippines.
He also mentioned Switzerland’s contribution to sustainable peace and stability in the Philippines as it chaired the Transition Justice and Reconciliation Commission of the Bangsamoro Peace Process. According to the envoy, this served as tangible proof of long-term collaboration based on trust and friendship between the two countries.
Furthermore, he noted the presence of 3,600 Swiss nationals residing in the country, which further deepens cultural exchanges between Switzerland and the Philippines. He expressed his commitment to further strengthen relationships between the two countries and its peoples.
In addition, the Swiss envoy has also been appointed as the Non-Resident Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau and Republic of the Marshall Islands.
Prior to his appointment, he served as the Ambassador of Switzerland to South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mauritius and Namibia.
