President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received the credentials of His Excellency David Bruce Hartman, Ambassador of Canada to the Philippines, at the President’s Hall in Malacañan Palace.
Ambassador Hartman started his diplomatic post in the Philippines on November 2022 when he replaced former Canadian envoy James Peter MacArthur. His career started in 1998 and he has since worked with Canada’s Parliament and Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
According to the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines, the Ambassador discussed with President Marcos Jr. the further strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations by addressing shared priorities like climate change, poverty reduction, economic recovery, supply chain resilience, food security and responsible ocean management.
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Canada began in 1949. Over the years, relations between the two countries have expanded significantly in areas of mutual cooperation such as trade and investments, maritime security, marine environmental protection, agriculture and education, among others.
