President Benigno S. Aquino III attended the second Plenary Session of the 9th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 9) in Laos’ capital city of Vientiane. This is the final day of the summit that gathered 52 Heads of State/Government/Delegation at the newly built National Convention Centre (NCC).

Plenary Session II tackled Agenda Item 4 pertaining to Global Issues.

Among the issues that ASEM leaders are expected to exchange views on include the Eurozone crisis, trade and investments, energy and food security, disaster management, counter-terrorism and migration.

The Philippines is focusing on migration and energy security throughout the duration of the Summit.

In the welcome remarks of Laos Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong during the opening ceremony, he said that the summit “aims to find solutions to respond to the fundamental needs of our people to ensure better living condition, sustainable livelihood and prosperity.”
