President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke with Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide of Japan during a phone call at the Malacañang Golf (MALAGO) Clubhouse in Malacañang Park, City of Manila.

In their conversation, both leaders affirmed the continued partnership and support between the Philippines and Japan in addressing the adverse effects of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, particularly on the health and economic system of the two countries. President Duterte expressed his hopes for a stronger collaboration with Japan in the areas of pandemic response, vaccine research and development, among others.

For his part, Prime Minister Suga upheld Japan’s commitment in boosting bilateral relations with the Philippines on various areas of mutual cooperation. He vowed to provide assistance to the country in times of need as the two nations celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Philippines-Japan Strategic Partnership.
