Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) – Migrant Workers’ Affairs Office Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola met with the officials of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) 2022 at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York.

The Philippines and UAE, together with the Kingdom of Bahrain, had also set to hold another side event the following day to discuss the three (3) countries’ joint efforts in improving labor migration governance in the Middle East. In the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (also known as Global Compact for Migration or GCM) — the first ever intergovernmentally negotiated UN agreement on managing international migration — Member States decided to conduct the IMRF every four (4) years beginning this year to discuss and share progress on their respective implementation of the Global Compact.
