President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.
The Malaysian Prime Minister is on a two-day Official Visit to the Philippines from March 1-2, 2023.
The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, reaffirm the two countries longstanding ties, as well as discuss bilateral matters concerning economic, security and political cooperation.
“Now that we are traversing towards recovery and growth, it is high time that we reintegrate our ties to bring economic prosperity. As newly elected leaders of our respective nations, we carry the great responsibility of steering our two nations back onto the right direction,” President Marcos Jr. said in his opening remarks before officially commencing the bilateral meeting.
“With a shared positive outlook, we will doubtless unlock new opportunities for collaboration. And thus, I look forward to engaging with you today on how we can advance our bilateral relations,” he added.
In 2022, the Philippines was Malaysia’s 15th largest trading partner globally and the 5th largest among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member States, with total trade amounting to US$9.42 billion, an increase of 20.1 percent compared to the recorded value in 2021, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.
