“We fully understand how tourism can drive our social, our economic recoveries, especially in the countryside, given the majestic and natural wonders and exciting man-made sites that we have within the Philippines,” said President Ferdinand R. Marcos when he keynoted the Philippine Tourism Industry Convergence Reception held at the SMX
Convention Center in Pasay City.
The President lauded the Department of Tourism (DOT) for its efforts, particularly its Listening Tours — an endeavor where the Department reaches out to local government units (LGUs) and stakeholders in ensuring the alignment of tourism development initiatives — that have been instrumental not only in formulating best policies, but also in
determining better practices and best projects for the tourism industry.
“Through these tours, you have exhibited the best way for us to unite and address the biggest concerns: seeing the perspective of those who are on the ground and understanding their experiences and situations,” he said.
“Allow me to repeat that, under this administration, the government will remain committed to ensuring that the inputs you have acquired from your listening tours will be optimized for the benefit of the sector,” the Chief Executive continued.
Hosted by the DOT with the participation of various stakeholders in the sector and representatives from related industries and businesses, the event served as a platform in realizing and strengthening the Administration’s agenda for the country’s tourism. President Marcos expressed his hopes for this day’s reception to foster meaningful discourse and yield concrete plans that can be put into immediate action.
“I wish that initiatives for greater tourism connectivity and convenience will be pursued after this event, and I know that it will, because I agree and I know that I have spoken to many of you that we are together and of like-mind when we think about that this is what we would like to achieve for our people,” he ended.
