President Rodrigo Roa Duterte personally thanked the people of Socorro town for their support during his presidential bid when he graced the People’s Day celebration at Barangay Batong Dalig in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro.
In his statement, President Duterte expressed his special gratitude for the support extended to him by the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) national president and Socorro Mayor Maria Fe ‘Bubut’ Brondial when he was still the Davao City mayor and prior to his run for the presidency.
He also reiterated to the people some of the promises he made to the nation when he took his oath of office – stopping corruption in government and fighting the illegal drug problem.
The President declared that his administration allotted a big amount of money in agriculture and education. “I would like to inform the farmers ‘yung irrigation fee na P5,000 wala na ‘yun. Tinanggal ko … P150 billion ‘yang irrigation na ‘yan so I will keep watch on everything,” he said.
During the event, Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali, Jr. presented the President a pledge of commitment for the Oriental Mindoro Rehabilitation and Recovery Center that was signed by various stakeholders in support of the anti- illegal drug campaign of the administration.
Among those present in the occasion and those who welcomed the President were Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Guiling Mamondiong, Southern Tagalog Presidential Adviser Jose Maria Nicomedes Hernandez, Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali Jr., District 1 Representative Paulino Salvador Leachon, District 2 Representative Reynaldo Umali, and San Jose Mayor Romulo Festin.
