President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) senatorial bid in a campaign rally at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Cagayan de Oro City.

Speaking mainly in Bisaya, the President reiterated in his speech many of the administration’s positions on several issues particularly on its anti-drug and corruption campaign.  

Moreover, the President lashed out on the New People’s Army (NPA), calling the peace talks ‘useless’ and has since terminated the peace negotiations with the armed militant group.

“I will stop talking to them because it is really useless,” he said.

“We have been talking for the last 30 years, and they have been trying to destroy the legitimate government since 53 years… 53 years would tell you that it amounts to nothing,’ he added. 

The PDP-Laban, the presidential ruling party, is vying for 12 senatorial seats in the upcoming May 13 mid-term election with its senate slate composed of five (5) candidates belonging to the PDP-Laban, and seven (7) others as the party’s guest senatorial candidates.
