January 16-20, 2023

Set to forward the Philippines’ economic performance in the global stage, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. embarks on his inaugural Participation to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland from January 16 to 20, 2023.

The President is one of two newly elected leaders from Asia, the other one being President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea, invited to attend the high-level event. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in a pre-departure briefing, his participation comes at an opportune time as the Philippines is recovering from previous challenges and projections remain high for its economic growth.

The DFA adds that the Chief Executive is also articulating the country’s priorities in nutrition, food security and energy.

Established in 1971, the WEF is an annual gathering of leaders from government, business and civil society to exchange views on pressing world issues and priorities for the year ahead.

The 53rd Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum bears the theme, ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’, with the four-day Forum aiming to provide an important platform for its estimated 2,500 participants to push for forward-looking solutions and address the global challenges through public-private cooperation.

President Marcos Jr. is concluding his visit with a get-together with the Filipino community set in Zurich, Switzerland. As of 12 January 2023, the Philippine Embassy in Berne, Switzerland has noted that 700 Filipinos from all over Europe have registered for the event and expressed eagerness to be with the President.
