Participation of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the
28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits
Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic
September 5-8, 2016
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte embarks on his first foreign visit to Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) to participate in the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits from September 6-8, 2016.
This is the President’s first participation in the said Summits since being elected as the country’s Head of State last May 2016.
The three-day event will discuss the regional bloc’s community building efforts especially with the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, as well as focus on ASEAN’s external relations and future direction, including the exchange of views on regional and international issues of common interest and concern.
On the final day of the Summits, the ASEAN Chairmanship will be handed over to the Philippines where the country is set to host next year’s Summits in conjunction with the Grand Commemorative Celebration of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary.
Apart from participating in the Summits, President Duterte is also scheduled to meet with the Filipino community in Lao PDR.
