President Rodrigo Roa Duterte participated in the Summit for Democracy hosted by President Joseph Biden, Jr. of the United States of America (USA) through virtual convention.

In a Statement released by the Office of the President (OP) on 7 December 2021, the Philippine Chief Executive, along with several Heads of State and Government, as well as leaders from civil society, private sector and nongovernment sectors, was invited by President Biden in the Summit to “embark on the work necessary to shape a prosperous and peaceful future built on respect for the rights and aspirations of all people.”

The Summit centered around three (3) principal themes — defending against authoritarianism; addressing and fighting corruption; and advancing respect for human rights.
