Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City
14 December 2015
As part of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s (PAGCOR) tradition of spreading Christmas cheers to the less fortunate sectors of society, President Benigno S. Aquino III led the gift giving for about 3,100 street sweepers, members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA), senior citizens, solo parents and persons with disability (PWDs) living in Quezon City.
In his statement, the President expressed his early Christmas greetings and said that the Filipino Christmas is all about the family, which is the reason why PAGCOR has been distributing gift packs to the less privileged whom they consider as part of family. For the past two years (2013-2014), PAGCOR focused on the victims of super typhoon Yolanda. In total, an estimated 9,500 beneficiaries have been aided under the program which, according to President Aquino, is proof that no one will be left behind in his administration’s “Daang Matuwid.”
He added that the Christmas season is also a time for thanksgiving, and that he is grateful to each of his “Boss” for working hard to to improve the lives of their families, as well as for being a supporter in pushing for the development of the nation.
During the event, President Aquino also witnessed the turnover of a check from PAGCOR worth P2 billion to the Departments of Education (DepEd) and Public Works and Highways (DPWH). PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Cristino Naguiat, Jr. handed the check donation to DepEd Secretary Brother Armin Luistro and DPWH Secretary Rogelio ‘Babes’ Singson. The amount will be utilized for the construction of more public school classrooms nationwide.
