President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the opening of the second state-of-the-art regional operations hub of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ) at the MDC Building in Eastwood, Quezon City.
He was joined by Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, ANZ Banking Group and Limited CEO Michael Smith, ANZ Philippines and Thailand CEO Panadda Manoleehakul and ANZ Group Hubs General Manager Jos Dijsselhof in the unveiling of the ANZ logo.
In his statement, the President said that the expansion proves to be another investor’s vote of confidence in the competitiveness of the Filipino workforce, as well as the skill and professionalism in the country. He also expressed his optimism in the growth of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry despite the challenges in the global economy.
“We are not expecting the industry to slow down in the foreseeable future. In fact, full-time employees in the sector are expected to increase to 610,000. This is why we are striving to ensure that those who invest in our people are given more reasons to continue and even expand their business here in the Philippines,” he said.
Since its opening in 1990, ANZ Philippines has grown into a fully licensed universal bank providing a full range of debt products, as well as corporate banking, trade finance and treasury services. The second operations center complements ANZ’s first site in Makati City, which opened in 2010 and employs more than 850 people.
ANZ has also entered into a joint venture with Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (MBTC) for the cards operation business of Metrobank Corporation, the credit subsidiary of MBTC.
