President Benigno S. Aquino III welcomes Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Malacanan Palace. This is part of the two-day official visit of the Prime Minister to the Philippines which aims to strengthen strategic partnership between the two Asian countries.

Prime Minister Abe, together with his delegation and Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Tosinao Urabe are expected to pay a courtesy call to President Aquino. The two leaders are going to proceed in an expanded meeting to discuss bilateral cooperation and other regional issues. President Aquino and Prime Minister Abe are delivering a joint press statement before the foreign and local media.

This is the second term of Prime Minister Abe as the Head of Government of Japan. His first visit to the Philippines was in 2006.
