President Rodrigo Roa Duterte witnessed the oath-taking of his youngest son, Davao City Vice Mayor-elect Sebastian Duterte, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall in Davao City.
Vice Mayor Duterte ran unopposed for the position and garnered more than 500,000 votes during the midterm election held on May 13, 2019.
In his speech, President Duterte expressed his gratitude to the people of Davao City for their trust to his family to serve as public servants.
“Wala na ko’y mapangayo sa mga tawo. (Wala na akong mahihiling pa sa mga tao.) Sagad na nga ang hiningi ko sa inyo. Iyong confidence and the trust, and of course your belief na kaya ko pati kaya ng pamilya ko na dalhin yung siyudad to a more progressive city,” the President said.
He also reiterated the importance of law and order for the progress of the nation.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte, their mother Elizabeth Zimmerman, as well as newly elected city officials and government workers attended the oath-taking ceremony with the President.
