President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. honored the Filipino heroes who made sacrifices and fought for the country’s sovereignty as he led the nation in commemorating the National Heroes Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
“Inialay nila ang kanilang lakas at kakayahan, hindi para sa papuri o gantimpala, kung hindi upang pagtibayin ang diwa ng pagkakaisa at upang makamit ang ating mga pangarap para sa bayan,” said President Marcos Jr. during his speech in the ceremony.
He added that past Filipino heroes, both known and unknown, spared us from the burdensome load, as well as taught us to believe in ourselves and build a sense of community among each other.
Amidst the challenges confronting the Filipino people, President Marcos Jr. highlighted the important contributions of farmers, teachers, health workers, traders, laborers and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in their respective sectors.
The Chief Executive vowed to expand and improve the healthcare services in support of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) – the government agency for Filipino war veterans – by establishing specialty hospitals in Visayas and Mindanao.
He also urged his countrymen to emulate the nationalism, determination, moral integrity and courage of heroes both present and the past.
“Umaasa ako na sa halimbawa ng ating mga dakilang bayani, higit nating isasabuhay ang kanilang ipinakitang pag-ibig sa bayan, at ipinagtatanggol at ipinaglalaban nilang panata sa kabutihan,” said President Marcos Jr. as he reiterated his call for peace and unity among the audience.
“Buong tapang nawa nating harapin ang anumang hamon sa hinaharap nang may tiwalang tayo ay higit na lalakas at magiging matagumpay kung tayo ay patuloy na magkakaisa at magtutulungan bilang isang bansa,” the President ended.
The event carried the theme ‘Kabayanihan Tungo sa Pagkakaisa at Pag-unlad’ (Heroism Towards Unity and Progress).
