Due to the recent power crisis in Mindanao, President Benigno S. Aquino III led the Energy Summit in Davao City together with the key officials of the government headed by Energy Sec. Jose Rene Almendras. The President personally answered questions from various sectors which include concerns from the energy consumers, energy providers, non-government organizations, local chief executives and members of the congress.

Earlier, a presentation of power issues and recommendations was submitted to the Energy Department and the Mindanao Development Authority. The summary and highlights of the session was later given to the President for review. These recommendations came from the Association of Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives (AMRECO), Business sector, Mindanao Power Alliance, Civil Society Groups, Mindanao Commission on Women, Mindanao lawmakers and Mindanao Local Government Units.
