Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Washington DC.
7 June 2012
President Benigno S. Aquino III met with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) President and CEO Keith Williams and UL Vice President for Global Government Affairs Anne Weeks at the Mandarin Hotel in Washington D.C.
Geared on expanding and enhancing its global market access, UL plans to invest in the Philippines through the Global Technology Research Center, which conducts studies on safety, performance, quality and energy efficiency, and other aspects critical to evaluate consumer products. It also performs product testing operations that can support its Philippine-based customers.
The said facility will support all UL operations around the world, and is seen as good news for local companies in the Philippines to lessen its costs in acquiring product certifications since they need not have to send their products to testing centers abroad.
Also present during the meeting were Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Ambassador of the Philippines to the United States Jose Cuisia Jr., Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, Finance Sec. Cesar Purisima, Trade and Industry Sec. Gregory Domingo, Tourism Sec. Ramon Jimenez, Energy Sec. Jose Rene Almendras and PCDSPO Sec. Ramon Carandang.
