President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. convened with the Department of Agriculture (DA) officials to discuss updates on the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Scale Up at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.

Following its board approval during the 6th National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board Meeting, the PRDP Scale Up is set to be implemented in a span of six (6) years from 2024-2029. The PhP45.01 billion project is geared towards empowering local farmers and fisherfolks through enhancing agricultural productivity, income opportunities and improve living condition in rural areas across 82 provinces.

During the meeting, President Marcos Jr. expressed the Administration’s strong stance in addressing the gaps within the commodity value chain by improving the efficiency of the food supply chain that promotes an inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth for the country.

The PRDP Scale Up is anchored in various components that aims to empower the agri-fishery sector. These include Local and National Level Planning, Rural Infrastructure Market Linkage, Enterprise Development and Project Implementation Support.

According to the DA, the project interventions would introduce a broader perspective in investment planning that promotes clustering and consolidation, prioritizes farm-to-market roads and forges partnership with the private sector all within the context of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) and National Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization and Industrialization Plan (NAFMIP) 2021-2030.
