“You are the pride of the Philippines,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said in his remarks as he met the Filipino community in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The President expressed his gratitude to the Filipinos in Cambodia for making him the first and only Filipino Chief Executive to win the Presidency by majority.

He reported his participation in the recently concluded 40th and 41st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits, citing that the good reputation of Filipinos in Cambodia made it easier for him to discuss with Prime Minister Hun Sen and His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.

The Chief Executive assured his fellow Filipinos that the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) are in constant collaboration to provide services and promote the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) around the world. Notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic, OFWs were able to send remittances to the Philippines amounting to USD34 billion.

The Kingdom of Cambodia is home to an estimated 7,000 Filipinos who are mostly employed in the sectors of education, infrastructure development, and information and communications technology (ICT), among others.
